Growing in Grace.

May 28, 2022 Preacher: Gareth Franks Series: Acts - The Gospel in Motion

Topic: The Church, Christian Living Scripture: Acts 18:18–28

In this passage we see our ongoing need for strength and instruction and companions who will encourage us in our walk with the Lord. We need the fellowship of the saints to continue to do what God has called us to do! Two points to consider in this passage:

  • 1. Growing in Strength (v.18-23)
  • 2. Growing in Accuracy (v.24-28)

Paul loved to venture into new territories, but he never forgot the need to strengthen those young church plants. He devotes this third missionary journey to the training and strengthening of the disciples.

In verse 24 we are introduced to another character. His name is Apollos. Apollos, not only preached the gospel to the lost, but also “helped greatly those who had believed through grace.” Priscilla and Aquila had helped Apollos come to a more accurate and deeper understanding of the things of God. He in turn helped others come to the same understanding. That should be the pattern for all believers. In areas where we have received help, we should offer help to others.

As we work together to move toward a common goal, we strengthen and help one another (Acts 18:23,27). We can accomplish more together than we can alone.

Discussion Questions

  1. What do we learn about humility from Aquila, Priscilla and Apollos?
  2. How important was hospitality to Aquila and Priscila? Why is it essential for every Christian home to show hospitality?
  3. How can a Christian discover where God wants him to serve?
  4. A person tells you, “I tried reading the Bible, but I couldn’t get much out of it.” How would you help him?
