Exodus 23:1–9 is a powerful section of the covenant laws where God instructs Israel on justice, fairness, and compassion. These verses warn against spreading false reports, joining in wrongdoing, or showing favoritism in court. They emphasize the importance of integrity, even when dealing with enemies, such as returning a lost animal or helping one in distress. The passage also highlights God’s concern for the vulnerable, commanding Israel not to oppress foreigners, reminding them of their own experience as strangers in Egypt. Together, these verses underscore that justice in God’s eyes is rooted in truth, impartiality, and mercy toward others. Our study will follow the outline below:

1. God calls His people to Truth in Witnessing. (vv.1-3)
2. God calls His people to Compassion, Care and Responsibility. (vv.4-5)
3. God calls His people to Justice in Bribery. (vv.6-8)
4. God calls His people to remember Compassion to a Foreigner. (v.9)

Exodus 23:1–9 also reveals the justice we fail to give, the justice Jesus perfectly fulfills, and the mercy that transforms us into people who reflect His justice in the world.
