The Perfect Plan of the Sovereign God

August 24, 2025 Preacher: Gareth Franks Series: Exodus - Saved to Worship

Topic: Christian Living Scripture: Exodus 11:1–10

Exodus 11 delivers God’s final warning to Pharaoh—a devastating plague that will break his resistance and lead to Israel’s release. It’s a moment heavy with justice, sorrow, and divine resolve. Yet even here, we glimpse God’s care for His people and His unwavering commitment to deliver them. Our study will follow the outline below:

  1. God Takes Care of His Children, Sufficiently (v.1–3)
  2. God Judges His Enemies, Righteously. (v.4–8)
  3. God Gives Grace to the Humble, Abundantly. (v.9–10)

In verses 1–3, God announces one final plague—the death of Egypt’s firstborn—that will compel Pharaoh to release Israel. Before this judgment falls, God ensures His people are cared for, instructing them to ask the Egyptians for silver and gold, which they willingly give. In verses 4–8, Moses, delivers God’s solemn warning: a great cry will rise throughout Egypt, unlike anything before or after, yet Israel will remain untouched. Despite the clarity and severity of the message, Pharaoh’s heart remains hard, setting the stage for God’s righteous judgment and Israel’s deliverance.

In verses 9–10, we’re reminded that despite all the signs and wonders, Pharaoh’s heart remained hard—just as God had said. Yet this resistance only magnified God’s power and mercy. While Pharaoh rejected grace, the humble—those who trusted and obeyed—were being prepared for deliverance.

  1. In verses 9-10 we see Pharaoh's prideful resistance toward God. What does 1 Peter 5:5–6 teach about God’s posture toward pride and humility?

The Heart of the Matter

  1. In what ways might we be tempted to trust our own provision rather than God’s care?
  1. What comfort can believers draw from God’s distinction between Egypt and Israel?
  1. How can we cultivate humility in a culture that often sees it as weakness?

Live it Out

This week, ask God to show you one area where you’re paddling against His will. What would it look like to turn the canoe and trust His current?
