God's Sovereign Plan.
June 8, 2025 Preacher: Gareth Franks Series: Exodus - Saved to Worship
Topic: Christian Living Scripture: Exodus 6:14– 7:7
Exodus 6:14–7:7 sets the stage for God’s dramatic showdown with Pharaoh. It begins with a genealogy, reminding us that Moses and Aaron are part of God’s covenant story. Despite Moses’ doubts, God reassures him that Pharaoh’s resistance will only highlight His power. Our study will follow the outline below:
- Trusting God’s Plan (6:14-27)
- Hearing God’s Charge (6:28-7:5)
- Obeying God's Word (7:6-7)
The genealogy in Exodus 6:14–27 served as a reminder to Israel of their covenant history and affirmed Moses as God’s chosen leader. Details like Shaul’s Canaanite heritage (Exodus 6:15) warned against intermarriage, while Levi’s genealogy (Exodus 6:16) reinforced God’s perfect timing in Israel’s deliverance. Even Moses’ lineage had imperfections (Exodus 6:20), yet God still used him.
Exodus 7:6–7 highlights the right response to God’s call—obedience. Despite doubts, Moses and Aaron faithfully delivered God’s message without compromise (Exodus 7:6). Moses and Aaron obeyed despite their imperfections, showing that God calls us to faithfulness, not perfection (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Getting Started
- Have you ever researched your family tree (genealogy)? Share your story.
- Read Exodus 7:1-7
- What insight, principle, or observation from Sunday’s sermon did you find to be the most helpful, eye-opening, or convicting?
Digging Deeper
- What significance does Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman, have in this genealogy? (Exodus 6:15)
- Read Exodus 6:12, 30, and 2 Corinthians 12:9. What do these passages teach about trusting God’s plan despite human weakness?
- What does it mean that God made Moses “as a god to Pharaoh”? (Exodus 7:1)
The Heart of the Matter
- Even Egypt would come to know that YHWH is the true God, showing that His plan extends beyond Israel. How does this passage challenge your perspective on evangelism and missions? In what ways can you be more intentional about making God’s name known?
- Despite their doubts and Pharaoh’s resistance, Moses and Aaron obeyed God completely. They did not alter His message or soften His words. How can you ensure that you are faithfully obeying God’s Word without compromise? Are there areas where you struggle to trust His instructions?
- Moses was 80, and Aaron was 83 when they confronted Pharaoh. Their obedience shows that God’s calling is not limited by age or stage of life. Have you ever delayed obedience, thinking you were too young, too old, or not ready? How does this passage encourage you to trust God’s timing?
