Resurrection and Rejection.

Topic: The Gospel Scripture: Matthew 27:62– 28:15
In Matthew 27:62-66, the Sanhedrin, concerned about Jesus' prophecy of resurrection, secured Pilate's permission to seal the tomb and station guards, aiming to prevent any claims of resurrection. Ironically, this act ensured that non-disciples were among the first witnesses to the resurrection, thereby validating the empty tomb. Despite their efforts, the chief priests' actions inadvertently confirmed the reality of the resurrection, showcasing God's sovereignty in using their schemes to affirm the truth of Jesus' resurrection. Our study follows the outline below:
1. A Desperate Council (27:62-66)
2. A Glorious Resurrection (28:1-10)
3. A False Report (28:11-15)
In Matthew 28:1-10, the resurrection is depicted as a glorious event, witnessed by women who encountered the risen Jesus. This event is contrasted with the false report in Matthew 28:11-15, where the guards, bribed by the chief priests, spread the lie that Jesus' body was stolen. This deception highlights the unbelief and moral rebellion of the religious leaders, who, despite the evidence, refused to accept the truth. Matthew emphasizes the importance of the resurrection, not just as a historical fact, but as a cornerstone of faith, demonstrating Jesus' victory over death and His divine authority.
