The Gospel and Missions

September 22, 2024 Preacher: Pedro Samuel Series: Missions Emphasis

Topic: Missions Scripture: Luke 24:25–27, Luke 24:44–48

Getting Started

  1. What narrative has your life been based on? In other words what narrative were you taught from young and has that changed during your lifetime?
  1. Greg Gilbert said in “What is the Gospel?” that: “the Bible is the story [meaning, historical narrative] of God’s counteroffensive against sin. It is the grand (or meta, master, epic) narrative of how God made it right, how He is making it right, and how He will one day make it right finally and forever (pages 60-61).” the Bible is an epic narrative made up of many different kinds of books with one controlling storyline, and one big picture – it is all about Jesus. Jesus affirms this very thing in Luke 24:25-27, 44-48.

  • Read Luke 24:25-27; 44-48

Digging Deeper

  1. What does the biblical narrative say about the family? (Read Deut. 6:1-15, 2 Tim 3:12-15)
  1. What does the narrative of the bible say about discernment? (Read 2 Tim. 3:1-7; Heb. 5:11-14)
  1. What does the biblical narrative say about out time (see Ephesians 5:15-17) and our priorities (see Matt. 6:31-33; Rom. 10:10-17)?

The Heart of the Matter

  1. The Bible proclaims one unified missional message from Genesis to Revelation. What is this biblical narrative of God’s Mission? Read Genesis 12:1-3 and Matthew 28:19-20.
  1. How are we, in our modern age, to be involved in this unified missional narrative we see in the bible?
  1. What is the conclusion to the biblical narrative and how does it motivate us toward missions? Read Revelation 5:9; Revelation 7:9-10
